San Marcos woman Photo
by Tony Mindling We
arrived in the pottery village of San Marcos standing in the back of a
stake-bodied truck, a common conveyance in rural Oaxaca. We had travelled
from Tlocolula with the breeze of a bright clear day blowing in our hair.
A family of potters Eric worked with were our hosts, first for lunch,
then demonstrations of pottery making. This woman, whose face appears
to have come to life from a pre-columbian Mayan carving, is helping to
make a meal of blue corn tortillas, chipil soup, eggs, and smoked meat.
