These utensils have been carefully arranged in preparation for bonfireing. Wood will be stacked around and on top of the pottery, then covered with sheets of corrugated metal or broken pots to hold the heat in.
The platters are comals, an ubiquitous Oaxacan utensil used for cooking corn tortillas.
